Optional tours to introduce Fujino surroundings

Date & Time : Thursday the 28th of April, afternoon session

Rejuvenate yourself with a half-day excursion. We organized visits to attractive areas around Fujino, Waldorf schools in the Kanto area, and a social art workshop. Tour participation is noncompulsory. Excursions have a maximum limit of participants due to space or transportation constraints. We are awaiting details from some venues and they will be posted on our website as we receive them. The exact price for each tour will be finalized closer to the date. We hope you have a chance to join one of the tours and have a wonderful time.

    1. Tour options

    Departure : after Morning Workshops
    Return : around 20:00

  1. Sightseeing a World Cultural Heritage Site of Mt. Fuji.

Fee: approximately 3,500 Yen 4,000 Yen(plus the cost of dinner)
Maximum: number of participants to be determined

  2. Mountain hike in Fujino and Japanese cultural experiences.

    Fee: approximately 2,500 Yen
    Maximum: 20 participants

We depart after lunch for a mountain hike (about 90 minutes) - view Japanese traditional weaving and dyeing (1 hour) - hot springs and dinner.

Fujino is a pretty town with an abundance of mountains and rivers. Refresh yourself with a short mountain hike near the venue and a visit to an old Japanese private house to see an aspect of traditional Japanese culture (weaving and dyeing may be changed depending on the availability of the host that day).

At the end of the tour we will stop by one of the nearby public hot springs. The hot springs has gender-segregated indoor and outdoor baths. If you do not bring your own towel, the facility rents towels for additional cost. The hot spring is an excellent way to reduce your fatigue from attending the first half of the conference. We will have a Japanese dinner after our relaxing soak in the natural spring water, and we will return to the venue around 19:30.

  3. Visit to Tokyo Kenji Steiner School.

    Fee: approximately 2,000 Yen
Maximum: number of participants to be determined

  4. Visit to Yokohama Steiner School.

    Fee: approximately 2,000 Yen

  6. Social Art Workshop "Coloring Together, Living Together"

Fee: 150 Yen (for material costs only)

The lecturer will open the workshop by sharing a poem. Participants will create a watercolor painting as a group. Through painting, we will communicate with each other with color rather than speech. The composition will be a blend of group members’ colors and your own. We will develop unity and flow through our connection with colors.(Led by Yuka Kobayashi, a part-time art teacher at Fujino Waldorf High School.)

Country Presentations

At AWTC 2015 in Japan, we value the importance of country presentations to become familiar with each other, and to share educational contents and curriculum ideas. We encourage everyone presenting to prepare in advance to promote deeper and enriched experiences among all participants. We established some policies to ensure every country has the opportunity to introduce themselves purposefully within the limitations of our time schedule.

  1. Each country is allocated 15 minutes to present. Please start and finish within the time limit. A moderator will ring a bell to signal when time is up. When the bell rings, please give way to the next presenters.
  2. Within your presentation, we would like to suggest you introduce how you teach particular subjects, such as geography, history, or economy, of your own country. As educators in Asian countries, we can all learn many things from each other through introducing these matters.
  3. If you choose not to talk about the teaching methods of particular subjects, please use the 15 minutes freely and include an introduction of your culture such as songs, dances, or poems.
  4. We will have NOTICE BOARDS at the venue to post information about your country to share with all conference participants. We would like to suggest you include information about the current situation of Waldorf education in your country. Examples are the number of Waldorf schools and kindergartens, the number of students at schools and kindergartens, and special mentions of related trends or events in your country. Because of time limits for introductory presentations by each country, we would like to recommend you use the notice boards as much as possible.
